Seriemas (Cariama cristata) sao aves da familia Cariamidae, ordem Cariamiformes conhecidas popularmente como: sariema, seriema-de-pe-vermelho e siriema. As seriemas são os unicos membros vivos da pequena familia de passaros Cariamidae, que eh tambem a unica linhagem sobrevivente da ordem Cariamiformes. As seriemas sao passaros marrons acastanhados e tem cerca de 90 cm de comprimento, com longas pernas, pescocos e caudas, de asas curtas refletindo seu modo de vida. = The seriemas are the sole living members of the small bird family Cariamidae, which is also the only surviving lineage of the order Cariamae. The seriemas are large, long-legged territorial birds that range from 70 to 90 cm. The red-legged seriema or crested cariama (Cariama cristata) is a mostly predatory terrestrial bird in the seriema family (Cariamidae), included in the "Gruiformes" in the old paraphyletic circumscription, but increasingly placed in a distinct order Cariamiformes (along with three extinct families). The red-legged seriema inhabits grasslands from Brazil south of the Amazon to Uruguay and northern Argentina.
