A criacao de camarores em viveiros (carcinicultura) tem forte impacto socio ambiental na regiao, pela supressao da vegetacao nativa dos manguezais e pela introducao de especies exoticas. Marambaia is a fishing village in Ceara. The creation of shrimp in nurseries (shrimp farming) has a strong socio-environmental impact in the region, due to the suppression of native mangrove vegetation and the introduction of exotic species. In addition, the effluents from the nurseries generate contamination of the water by fungicides. Social conflicts between shrimp farmers and traditional communities are common.
